News from the Secretary General

Sometimes it’s the in-between moments that stay with us: the lively discussions over coffee, the laughter on a summer evening, and the shared sense of purpose that comes from being among peers. The past few weeks have been full of such moments – for example, at our conference in Karlsruhe, which we hosted jointly with the German Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection, and at our third summer party in the wonderful garden of Villa Marienforst.

DIS Arbitration Rules and Clauses in Chinese - Now Available

We are pleased to announce that the DIS Arbitration Rules and model clauses are now available in Chinese.

End of Cooperation with the Chamber of Industry and Commerce for Munich and Upper Bavaria – Closure of DIS Office and Deadline Mailbox

The cooperation agreement between the DIS and Chamber of Industry and Commerce for Munich and Upper Bavaria, in place since 1997, ended on 30 June 2025. As a result, the DIS Secretariat and the deadline mailbox at the IHK premises are now permanently closed.

Update from the DIS-ERA Pledge Gender Champion Initiative

We are pleased to announce a significant milestone for the DIS: In the period from January to June, we reached a record high of 61.54% female arbitrators appointed by the institution! This marks a substantial increase from 44.44% in 2024 and surpasses the previous record of 53.85% set in 2023.

ASA Arbitration Retreat 2025 jointly organised with DIS

The ASA Arbitration Retreat is based on a format that was originally developed by ASA in 1997 with subsequent annual seminars hosted by ASA in cooperation with other arbitration associations and institutions in Europe and Asia.

Berlin Dispute Resolution Days 2025

The fourth edition of the Berlin Dispute Resolution Days will take place from 8 to 11 September 2025. More than 30 events affiliated with the Berlin Dispute Resolution Days 2025 have already been uploaded to the event calendar on the website.

DIS/BMJV Conference in Karlsruhe on Germany as a Dispute Resolution Venue

The German Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection (BMJV) and the DIS hosted a joint conference in Karlsruhe on 26 June 2025 attended by numerous representatives of the judiciary and the arbitration community.

IAKL European Conference 2025 in Berlin - with Pre-conference Event at the Berlin Office of the DIS

As part of the IAKL European Conference 2025, an informal networking event took place on 13 June 2025 at the Berlin office of the DIS. DIS welcomed 15 participants to the pre-conference event, providing a collegial setting for open exchange and networking.

Joint CIDR-DIS PhD Workshop on Alternative Dispute Resolution

The annual PhD workshop on arbitration and alternative dispute resolution, organized jointly by the Bucerius Law School’s Center for International Dispute Resolution and the DIS, took place on 4 and 5 July 2025 on the Bucerius campus.

DIS Summer Party 2025

On 3 July 2025, it was once again time to welcome everyone to the DIS Summer Party! We enjoyed a beautiful summer evening together with numerous guests from across the community in the idyllic park surrounding Villa Marienforst.

Lunch DIScussions: Sanctions and Institutional Arbitration – Launch of the DIS Sanctions FAQ

On 10 July 2025, the Lunch DIScussions turned to a timely and complex topic: sanctions and their impact on institutional arbitration. We were pleased to launch the new DIS FAQs on Sanctions, offering practical guidance for parties, counsel, and arbitrators navigating sanctions-related issues in DIS proceedings.

DIS@Vilnius: DIScover Ways to Involve Third Parties in Arbitration – German and Baltic Perspectives

The DIS is coming to Vilnius for an event entitled "Ways to Involve Third Parties in Arbitration with a focus on German and Baltic Perspectives."
